Ribbon flowers

Dax, Katie, Kael, Dace
At Christmas, some of the kidlettes came to visit me. (Their parents came too of course.)
Katie was sitting on my bed and we were having girl chat, when she threw back the bedspread. The back of it is charmeuse satin. It is very soft and cozy.
She said, "Oh Grandma, do you have any more of this material.  I want a blanket for my bed like this."

I don't have any more of it, but it gave me a great idea for her birthday in April. (More about that later)
So as part of the prize, I am making flowers out of satin ribbon.

7" piece of 2 1/2" ribbon

gathered and sinched tight

3 petals
Flower Bud.  Take 3 pieces of 2 1/2" wide ribbon and hand gather in 1/4" long stitches curving up the side, across the top and curve the remaining side.

Pull the gathers tight and back-stitch to hold in place.

When you have 3 petals done, position them to look like a bud. Stitch through the bottoms to connect together. I also wrapped the doubled thread around the entire thing 2 or 3 times and back-stitch to secure.

When the bud is finished, I cover the ends with green ribbon to make the sepals and finish it off.

You can also do 2 colored petals and 2 green petals to make a bud just    starting to open.
I have been making lots of flowers for this prize. I is turning out even better than I imagined.
